Discover the ultimate destination for a Full experience.

When you hear about travelling to Northeast India, you must have heard about Meghalaya being famous for adventurous spots and breathtaking scenery, or Arunachal Pradesh for its mountainous terrain and heavenly views. just like the painter’s canvas is filled with different strokes of beauty, so are each of the Northeast states with different unique beauty they offer.

Here, I will uncover some underrated places even among the locals, as well as some popular spots worth visiting.

Mount Saramati!

Mount Saramati is located near the village of Thanamir, also known as the ‘Apple village’, in the Kiphire District of Nagaland. it is the highest peak in Northeast India. The altitude is 3,826m (12,553 ft). It also marks the border between India and Myanmar. It is the best trekking place to be, which is very underrated; not many locals know about it either. However, it is the best spot to visit if you’re up for a little adventure.

Mount Japfu

It is the second-highest summit in Nagaland (3,048m), located near Kohima, with the trailhead at Kigwema Village, which is 16 km from the capital. It is a rewarding trek, offering great views of snow-capped peaks and rhododendron-covered trails.

The best time for trekking is post-monsoon through winter. Starting the trek early is recommended to soak in those golden morning views that make the climb unforgettable.

While the trail itself is beautiful, it can get steep and physically demanding in parts, and carrying enough water is essential, as there are limited water sources between the base and the summit. Hiring a local guide is recommended as it adds both safety and a deeper understanding of the region.

Dzuko valley

It is a paradise for trekkers and one of the most popular trekking sites in Nagaland, with its pristine view and a step into a world of rolling meadows, seasonal wildflowers, the most famous one is the Dzukou Lily, and winds that carry silence. If you are visiting the state for the Hornbill festival, it is best to plan a day or two for trekking.

Located in Kohima district, the trek begins from either Jhakhama or Viswema village. The Jakhama trail is shorter and steeper, making it ideal for the more adventurous, while the Viswema route is longer but gentler. the reward, however, is the same with lush bamboo groves, natural cave shelter, and a dreamlike valley that glows golden at sunrise.

The best visit time is June to September for flower blooms or October to December for crisps, with clear views. the trekkers can stay overnight in the valley’s basic rest houses, but it is better to carry your own sleeping bag and food or cash in hand if you’re planning to stay overnight.

Dzuko valley trek is just not a physical journey, it is a quiet meditation with nature. A place where clouds meet the earth, decorated with flowers, and time seems to freeze, it will leave you awestruck.
